Penn Medicine’s Covid Testing Labs were built within 13,800 sf of existing shell space on the 6th floor of Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse. The program includes separate laboratories dedicated to different modalities of testing (nasal swab and saliva) served by shared spaces for Sample Receiving/Triage, Clean Storage, Soiled Holding, and Administrative/Staff Support facilities. Lab furnishings were designed for flexibility with the understanding that they will be reconfigured as testing needs and technologies develop.
The project included two new rooftop HVAC systems including air handlers, exhaust fan sets, and energy recovery units.
BBLM Architects and its consultants worked closely in an integrated process with the Hospital, their lab equipment vendors, and construction manager to program, design, document, and construct this critical facility within a short time span.
