With the hospital’s existing unit no longer able to keep up with demand, BBLM was tasked to renovate and expand the unit to modern standards. Adjacent underused spaces were added to the unit’s footprint, allowing an increased bay count from six to eight, including the addition of a private treatment room. Bays were spaced wider than required to properly accommodate dialysis machines and caregiver access, while also allowing for greater patient privacy. The unit received a new R.O. water treatment system with onsite dialysis machine repair room. As part of a cross-disciplinary team, BBLM coordinated the relocation of the clinical unit to an adjacent underused nursing unit so that the construction could be completed faster and in a single phase. A calm color palette, patient-controlled lighting, and natural light create a healing environment for patients.
